Thaen Mittai recipe

This resumes to my childhood days. Where every evening immediately after the end of the school, I will run to Potti Kadai to get this delicious mittai. When it murmurs, the Thaen (honey, in reality the sugar syrup) is enough from the cake and I pulled only on all the lips. Omg is such a pleasure. Nowadays it is really difficult to find it, even if we find it, it never has an equal flavor. Check my other recipes by Potti Kadai.

My spectators have been asking this recipe for some time. I searched online to get an idea of how it is done, but without luck. There are only a few blogs that have this recipe and this is also made with Maida flour / all purposes. But I want to make it slightly healthy. So I decided to do it with URAD Dal and Rice, inspired by my Kartupatti Mittai.

Once I tried this recipe, I asked him to taste it. He tried and told me, this has a better flavor than the original. He broke up many in his mouth and said he has such a good flavor and nailed it. I was so happy to have made the traditional recipe, a favorite recipe by many and proved to be brilliant.

What is Thaen Mittai?

Thaen Mittai is also known as sweet balls or honey. It is a famous snack of Kadai (small shop) breasts from South Indian. This is considered a recipe for nostalgic childhood. The batter is traditionally made with simple flour, yogurt, baking soda. The batter is dropped into hot oil like balls and fried up to crunchy.

These fried balls are then immersed in the hot sugar syrup which is trapped inside the fried balls. This creates an explosion when you bite us. Hence the name.

Information about Thaen Mittai

Thaen Mittai is a favorite recipe for nostalgic childhood of many. This is available in the small shops of Potti Kadai. It is also known as the sweet honey that is made with URAD Dal, rice and soaked in syrup. Traditionally it is made with Maida and sugar. But I did it with URAD Dal and Rice for a healthy alternative.

The dessert itself is soaked in syrup, so it is better to make it fresh and consume it on the same day. The leftovers can be kept in a narrow container.
