Ooolalaa!! We are really excited about this! The fruits of the warmer months are starting to appear on store shelves and we’re going full fruity on everything! On an impulse I bought some passion fruit (They smell so good!) and then I didn’t know what to do with them because they were quite sour to eat straight. So I left the fruit in a basket until the other day when I had a “light bulb”. Why not make a syrup like we do with pomegranate (Check out our fabulous granadine syrup recipe)?
And so we prepared the passion fruit syrup (It was so easy!) and the result was just as fabulous as our previous favorite granadine syrup! Passion Fruit Syrup infuses with the intoxicating, exotic and sexy tropical scent of Passion Fruit into a gorgeous orange fruit syrup that is out of this world. It’s so good that I had to quickly scour the neighborhood for more passion fruit due to high consumer demand (that is, my little girl’s requests 😉 Ahh… the joys of the fruit…

Passion fruit is a fruit with a very humble appearance due to the flavor and power of the aroma it packs. These fruits are oval and sized to fit in your hand. They are usually purple, sometimes yellow. There is a characteristic wrinkling of the fruits as they ripen.

When buying fruit, choose large fruits. The little ones won’t have much pulp. Check the heaviness because heavier means juicy. If ripe the skins will be slightly wrinkled and the fruit should smell really good. If you keep the fruit even longer, the skins will become very wrinkled, but that’s okay. They are still usable, just a little less juicy.

Passion fruit is cut in half to expose the juicy pulp inside. There will be an explosion of intense tropical scent. A spoon is used to scoop out the juicy pulp, seeds and all, clean the pith and white rind.

Note that the passion fruit in the photo above is super wrinkled. I left them around the house for a long time and they were perfectly fine!

So it’s easy to adjust the recipe to the amount of passion fruit you have on hand. Given the extremely good reception of this exotic syrup in our home, it is probably a good idea to make more, more!
