There are many types of sushi in Japan and one of these types are these feared sushi balls, known as Temarizushi in Japanese. This delicate and beautiful sushi is like an edible art form that recalls embroidered Japanese decorative balls. However, although they may seem intricate, they are actually much easier to make than normal sushi rolls. Temarizushi requires less skills, less equipment and makes less disaster!
If you have ever prepared sushi at home alone, you will know that afterwards there can be a nice disaster with small pieces of rice that stick everywhere … but not with these sushi balls! All you have to do is model them in a plastic wrapping, remove the balls perfectly in the shape of a shape, then throw away the casing and enjoy your sushi!

What is Temari Sushi?
Temari Sushi, or Temarizushi, is a type of sushi in Japan in the form of a small sphere adorned with fresh ingredients artistically placed at the top. It takes its name from Temari Balls, a type of traditional Japanese popular art made with wonderfully intertwined balls. The word Temari itself means “hand ball” with this profession originally made with silk kimono waste and used as a children’s toy similar to a hacky bag. Nowadays, the fear balls are purely decorative ornaments made with intricate projects and used as gifts for occasions and happy celebrations. Temari Sushi is also a Go-to for celebrations such as the Girl’s Day “Hinamatsuri” in Japan and can be easily changed to adapt to festive holidays such as Christmas and Halloween!

Ingredients
The ingredients for fear sushi are the same as any other type of sushi such as hand rolls and nigiri sushi. The most important thing is to use perfectly seasoned sushi rice and fresh ingredients so that sushi has a fantastic flavor and pop colors. Here are some suggestions on the ingredients and combinations of flavors:
1. Sushi rice
Follow my recipe to make the perfect sushi rice every time. No more rice sushi soft.

2. Fish/Seafood
If you are a raw fish fan, use fresh sashimi salmon, tuna and sea bream (tai) and fish eggs such as salmon eggs (ikura). Otherwise try shrimp, crab, lobster, octopus and egg omelette.
3. Vegetables
Once you have the ingredients of your choice, it’s time to decorate! Mix different plots, flavors and colors creates the most vibrant, beautiful and delicious Temarizush. Some plant suggestions are cucumbers, radishes, shiso leaf and avocado. These can be used as a main ingredient and as gaskets. Other suggestions with garnish to finish your fear balls are fish eggs, Gombo, Yuzu and herbal leaves such as crescen and chives.

Tips to make the Sushi Temori ball more beautiful
- Prepare in advance the decorations with condiment (especially for those of Halloween and Christmas) because it can take time to cut all small pieces like algae sheets (Nori).
- Use chopsticks, tweezers or pliers to position the seasonings to avoid eliminating the pieces or ringing or ruining sushi balls.
How to serve
Since these sushi balls are mini and small in size, they are excellent foods for your next party or event. They are delicious and perfect.
The decorative part is certainly the funniest! Once you’re done, serve with soy sauce, mayonnaise and Wasabi (making sure to save the spicy ones for adults!) And do not forget the Gari (Japanese Sottacento ginger), to wash the taste of fish so that the flavors do not come up in the mouth!
