On Sharjah Shake
Sharjah Shake is a distinctive drink of the Kerala cuisine, celebrated for its creamy consistency, the refreshing taste and simplicity. He originated in the lively Kerala juice shops and quickly earned fame as a drink to try.
This frappè based on banana reflects the love of the region for sweet and energizing drinks, often enjoyed as a snack or fast dessert.
The exact origin of the name Sharjah Shake remains in some way unclear, but it is believed that it is inspired by the influence of the Gulf countries, in particular the United Arab Emirates, on the culture and economy of Kerala.
The name “Sharjah” probably refers to the Emirate in the United Arab Emirates, reflecting the close links between the Kerala and the Middle East due to decades of migration and trade.
At the end of 20 yearsth Century, Kiralites who return to the Gulf brought with them a charm for new flavors and trends.
Some suggest that the rich and indulgent nature of the drink, similar to the opulence associated with the Gulf countries, has led to be appointed Sharjah Shake.
His popularity has grown in the local juice stores of Kerala and has become an iconic drink, symbolizing a mixture of the culinary creativity of Kerala and the influences inspired by the Gulf.
Sharjah Shake has a distinct and unique flavor, distinguishing it from a typical banana smoothie. The addition of malt -based dust and nuts significantly improves its taste.
The immense popularity of the drink shows the talent of Kerala for having combined local ingredients with universal charm, making it a beloved part of the culinary identity of the state.
On the recipe
Sharjah Shake is essentially a frappè made with bananas, malt -based powder (such as bournvita, boost, horlicks or the like) and nuts such as anachds or peanuts.
His uniqueness lies in the use of frozen milk and in drinking powder with the malt, which gives it a creamy consistency and a distinct flavor.
In general, to make Sharjah shake up, a 500 ml milk package is frozen, then crushed using a rolling pin before being added to a blender. Alternatively, if you have little time, you can use refrigerated milk with some ice cubes.
Another method includes semi-conclusion milk in a container for about 1-2 hours, making the transfer to the blender easy.
This is what I did. Just keep the milk in a covered bowl or in a container in the freezer for a maximum of one hour or two to semi-firm.
The variations include the mixing of roasted peanuts with bananas or use as a condiment for Sharjah Shake.
Anacardi can also be mixed or used as a side dish and other nuts such as almonds or pistachios work well.
The choice of drink powder to the malt depends on personal preferences, with options such as Milo, Horlicks, Ovaltine, Boost or Bournvita all suitable. For this Sharjah Shake recipe, I used Bournvita as it was promptly available.
