One of my favorite ways to prepare a simple meal is to use a batch of pre-made Hawaiian rolls to create sliders. Name branding works best, but store branding works well too. You can cut the entire package of sandwiches in half at once, fill the bottom sandwiches with your favorite sandwich toppings, then add the top sandwiches back in and bake! I do this with my other easy slider recipes: Ham and Cheese Sandwiches, Aloha Sloppy Sliders, and even Turkey Sliders with Cranberry Sauce!

How to Make Big Mac Slider on Hawaiian Rolls

  2. Cover and refrigerate until ready to use.

Next, prepare the Slider Buns:
  1. Preheat oven to 375°F.
  2. Line a baking tray or baking tray with baking paper. Cut the Hawaiian rolls in half horizontally using a serrated knife. I like to simply fold the sides of the cardboard and cut the entire package at once, keeping the top as one large piece.
  3. Brush cut sides of rolls with 2 tablespoons melted butter. Place them on the baking tray with the cut side facing up and toast them in the oven for 4-5 minutes or until lightly golden. Remove and set aside.

Cook the burger filling:
  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and chopped onion, breaking up the meat with a spatula.
  2. Season with garlic powder, salt and pepper. Cook until the meat is browned and the onions are translucent. Drain off excess fat.
  3. Alternativelyyou could mix the ground beef and seasonings together, spread them into an even layer the size of your buns on a hot skillet, then cook the ground beef until cooked through, turning to cook both sides. This will give your sliders burger patties instead of crumbled ground beef.

Finally, assemble and cook the Mini Big Macs:
  1. Spread some of the prepared sauce on the bottom half of the buns.
  2. Place the ground beef mixture on top, followed by a layer of cheese and then the pickle slices.
  3. Replace top half of buns, brush tops of buns with remaining 2 tablespoons melted butter, and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
  4. Bake for 5-7 minutes or until cheese is melted.
  5. Remove from the oven, lift the tops of the buns and add the shredded lettuce. Replace tops and serve immediately with extra sauce on the side.

Recipe Notes and Tips:

  • Use lean ground meat: This minimizes the amount of grease and makes cleaning easier.
  • Prepare the sauce in advance: Big Mac sauce can be made up to a week in advance and stored in the refrigerator.
  • Save time: If you’re short on time, use a store-bought Big Mac-style sauce.
  • Crispy lettuce tricks: Add shredded lettuce just before serving to keep it fresh and crunchy. We found that if we assembled and cooked the sliders with lettuce, they became a little wilted and soggy. We therefore strongly recommend adding it after heating them in the oven.
  • Customize it: Add more cheese, pickles or onions based on your taste preferences!
