I competed at the Burger Celebrity Burger of the National Hardware Show of 2025 in Las Vegas and I won $ 5,000 with this hamburger stuffed with Thai -inspired cheeses with Thai basil and spicy mint chimichurri chimichurri.

I was invited to represent the monuments grids at the National Hardware Show Cookoff in March 2025. The teams had 90 minutes to grill a hamburger and appetizer cursor for a constant jury from stars.

The judges included Chuck Matto (Chuck’s Flavor Train), Tony Ramirez (TFTI), the chef Chris Binotto, Kathryn Emery, Dan Correa and Rob Conrado Jr.

We had to prepare everything on the spot and present seven portions to the judges and dozens of champions on the crowd. I transformed into barbecue chicken inspired by the Filipino of small size on a Ube Waffle And this Hamburger inspired by Thai.


What makes this hamburger from $ 5000

When you create this recipe, I knew I had to amaze the judges with their first bite. So I decided to create the following:

  • A juicy cake
  • Report for perfect sandwich / meat
  • Structure
  • Layers of flavors
  • And the sticky ooey of melted cheese

Unlike most hamburgers who are grilled and therefore piled up on a sandwich with condiments, the $ 5000 hamburger is different.

The cheese is stuffed in a sandwich on the dug bottom and a heavily seasoned pork pie is positioned above.

So, the cake and sandwich are grilled together. Once the meat is cooked, it is seasoned with unique chimichurri and spicy mayonnaise.

Prepare the sandwiches

  • Using a serrated knife, cut the top 1/3 of each shot. Use the hands to extract the centers from the lower half of each sandwich, leaving an edge of about 1/2 inches.

  • Fill the cavity with grated mozzarella, packing it.

  • Divide the meat topped into 6 portions. Roll into a ball and flatten in a cake. Press above the lower half of the roll, covering all the cheese.

Final touches

  • Once the hamburgers are almost cooked, turn the hamburgers turn to help melt the cheese and cook for a few more minutes. Add the upper part of the sandwiches to the upper rack on the grill to toast.

  • To assemble, drool the spicy mayonnaise on the upper sandwich. Add a spoonful of chimichurri over the cake. Put the sandwich at the top and have fun.

Ingredients

  • Ground pork: You can grind yours from the pork shoulder or search for pork in the meat department.
  • Fish Sauce: This is the key to the Umbami bomb. You will find it in the Asian section of your grocery store.
  • Brown sugar: I always use dark cane sugar.
  • Fresh ginger
  • Shallot
  • Fresh garlic
  • Lime
  • Serrano Chili: If you want a hamburger with less heat, delete seeds or use a jalapeno pepper.
  • Cilando
  • Mint
  • Thai Basil: This is not the same as Italian basil. It has more than one anise flavor. Look for it to Asian food or sprouts.
  • Rice wine vinegar
  • Olive oil
  • Japanese mayonnaise: It is important to use Japanese mayonnaise. It is richer because it is made with egg yolks.
  • Sriracha sauce: I used Hot pepper sauce sriracha of melinda.
  • Kosher salt, black pepper, red pepper flakes, msg
  • Hard rolls: I found them in the oven section of my Smith/Kroger grocery store. They feel crispy outside, but they are soft inside. Do not use normal hamburger sandwiches. They are too soft.
  • Chopped Mozzarella Cheese
Substitutions: You can also make this with ground bork, which is a blend of ground pork and ground beef.

  1. Step one: In a large bowl, add the ground pork with fish sauce, brown sugar, ginger, shallot, garlic, serrano pepper, zest and juice of a lime, salt and msg.

  1. Step five: Heat the grill to medium -low heat. Put the burgers on the side of the grill meat down. Cook for about 20 minutes, until the internal temperature reaches 160-165f.

PRO TIP: Check on the burgers to make sure the buns aren't burning. If your grill has hot spots, you may need to adjust where the burgers are cooked on the grill.

How to serve a winning hamburger

When you serve a hamburger to the judges during a cookoff, you want to timer so that Burger is even as hot as possible. You also want the sandwich to have a creak and do not become a fraudicio.

This is also a good advice for when you want to serve it for friends and family.

To do this, keep the hamburgers and sandwiches warm and wait to add Mayo and Chimi until they need before serving.

Warehouse

If you have $ 5000 leftovers, it is better to keep hamburgers and sandwiches separated from the Mayo and Chimichurri. Store them all in hermetic containers in the refrigerator for 3-5 days.

Heat the hamburgers in the microwave and then on top of Chimi and Mayo.
