Southern Style Shrimp and Grits

This iconic South dish was traditionally served as a morning meal. We love it so much, we would do it for breakfast, lunch or dinner. These hot and creamy grains are charged with Cherdar butter and cheese, seasoned with skipped prawns and crunchy bacon. Add a (or more) pierce of spicy sauce and a fresh lemon narrow and you have a southern comfort bowl ready in just 45 minutes.

Because our recipe

  • We use white grains for the most creamy grains and then we kick them with cherdar cheese.
  • The prawns are cooked in bacon fat and garlic to ensure that it is full of flavor.
  • It is completed with a little lemon juice, spicy sauce (obviously), bacon and green onions.

This southern basic food is easy to prepare, abundant and filling, while offering a great flavor. Bleen grines and cheese combined with salted bacon and garlic shrimps makes us water for the mouth!   • White grines: White grains are more versatile and take on the flavors of the dish, while yellow grains have a more assertive corn flavor.
  • Chicken broth: The use of a low sodium option allows you to better control the flavor. It is an excellent advice chef.
  • Butter: We use salty butter to add the right amount of salt to improve the flavors of the grains.

Shrimp options

You have some options to choose from when it comes to shrimp, it is actually more than a few. There are different dimensions, frozen or fresh, venerated or expelled, peeled or whole and everyone works!

For convenience, we prefer to cook with shrimp already peeled and expelled. If you use FrozenMake sure to defrost them before using.

Great instantaneous vs. white

The instantaneous grains can cook faster, however, they lack the better flavor of white grains. It is worth taking the time to cook the real thing that will translate into more creamy grain, tasty and totally of quality that you can do at home.

Avoid grumose grumo

If you have problems with the tuft, don’t worry, you’re not alone. It is a common problem that can be easily solved. The most common cause of clumping is not mixing the grains immediately after adding them to the liquid. This can ensure that the grains will join and forms lumps.

To prevent lumps, Make sure to continually mix the grains for the first few minutes after adding them to the liquid. Compound, compound, compound!

Add a little grane in a moment mixing to ensure that the grains are uniformly dispersed in the liquid. You can sprinkle them gently above the top of the boiling liquid.

Regulates the heat

For less heat: If you do not tolerate the spices, feel free to leave the spicy sauce completely. If you want a small spice but not much warmth, add a pinch of paprika AND chilli powder Instead.

For more heat: Feel free to add only more spicy sauce. Or, add 1/4–1/2 teaspoon Cayenne pepper When cooking the prawns for even more heat. You could also fill with fresh Slices of jalapeño or a sprinkling of pepper bows.

Storage and heating instructions

Refrigerate leftovers in an airtight container for a maximum of 3 days.

Heat Store grain in a low heat saucepan. Add a little water or chicken broth to prevent the grains from drying and mixing from time to time to make sure they warm up evenly. Raise the prawns in a pan over medium heat that will only require 1-2 minutes.

Microwave grains with increases of 30 seconds until they were heated. Add a small amount of water to the grains to thin, if necessary. Add the prawns in the end or heat separately while heating themselves much faster and will become rubbery when they are too cooked.

Freeze Store grain in a hermetic container or plastic freezer bag that can be used for a maximum of 3 months. When you are ready to eat them, defrost in the refrigerator during the night and heat as usual.
