Seaside lunch in my father’s hometown

After visiting Yeosu, the city I grew up, I headed NamhaeMy father’s hometown and where I had spent a long time when I was young. Since the road to the small village of Namhae winds through the mountain paths, I had to rent a car to get there. The trip beyond Namhae Bridge brought me to the sea and places I often visited during the school holidays and although many years had passed, it did not seem unknown; Instead, the memories have come back clearly. It is a very beautiful part of Korea and even years later she is still pretty.

I chose accommodation on the shore surrounded by pines, with a refreshing breeze that comes from the ocean. It was discovered that the owner knew my father! He visited the evening with his mother and brought warm sweet potatoes and some of the famous spinach cultivated in the Namhae camps. His mother knew both my father and my mother.

I couldn’t help but think of my father, who not only grew here, but is buried in the nearby mountains. I cooked the meals he would love, which was easy because I had already bought all the local ingredients in the Namhae county market along the way.

I was visited by my good friend Mrs. Im. I met her in Toronto in the early 2000s, but now she lived only a few hours of cars and came to visit me for lunch. Seeing her again in Korea in 2015 was a wonderful gift and her smile and her passion for fresh fish rejuvenated me! This video is part of my real series of Korean cuisine, shot in Korea in 2015 after completing my first cooking book, true Korean cuisine.
