What is Thai green fried rice rice
Thai green curry fried rice, or Kao Pad Gaeng Koew Wan, is a pan jasmine rice with spicy green curry, vegetables and optional proteins such as chicken or pig. It is a fast main dish with a balanced mix of sweet, savory and spicy Thai flavors.
Kae Pad
As a fall OR Khao Pad means fried rice In Thai. Gaeng Keow Wan OR Gang Kyiv Wan translates into Green curry.
This green fried rice curry is a real flavor bomb! It is more suitable for adults and less for children, since curry paste and chillies add spiciness. For children, you can use a milder fried rice recipe, such as fried rice with chicken pineapple.
In my previous recipes, I said that fried rice is not necessarily my favorite dish, but this green Thai curry rice always affects the place. The curry paste adds a huge amount of flavor to the dish that is so, so delicious.
In Thailand, this dish is not commonly ordered and is not available in street food markets where I live. However, it was a real success in my Thai restaurant, together with variants using red curry paste and yellow curry paste.
After the instructions, I will share some tips on how to better serve Thai green curry rice and how you can customize the dish to your liking, so be sure to continue reading!
Ingredients
Green curry fried rice ingredients can be from Asian food stores and Asian markets.
The exact measurements are in the recipe card at the end of this post.
- Steam rice – In Thai cuisine, we often use jasmine rice, but other types can also work. For the best fried rice, it is ideal to use rice for a day that has been cooked and cooled for a day.
- Green curry paste – For truly tasty results, try my homemade green curry paste. If you are buying from a shop, the master brands or Mae Ploy are excellent choices and you can find them on Amazon.
- Thai eggplant, pea aubergines -Ast are my green vegetables for this dish. Feel free to customize with your favorite vegetables, I have listed many options under the instructions.
- Sweet basil – Sweet basil adds freshness and aroma.
- Prik who does – This type of Thai chili pepper adds mild to moderate heat with a lot of pepper flavor without overwhelming the dish.
- Fish sauce – Fish sauce It is a firm point in Thai cuisine, adding a salty flavor rich in umami.
- Oyster sauce – Oyster sauce It is a common ingredient in Thai cured meats, providing a salty and slightly sweet flavor that is perfect for preparing fried rice.
- White sugar – A small amount of white or cane sugar is a must to balance the salt and heat. Balance the flavors is a little part of Thai food cuisine!
- Oil -Us a neutral taste oil such as vegetables or canola, which has a high smoke point perfect for frying without overwhelming the flavors of the dish.

Vegetarian: Vegetarians can opt for tofu and use a vegetarian fish sauce and an oyster sauce for a gluten -free rice mealing meal. (Or simply try my recipe for vegetarian fritta rice!)
With what to serve kao pad
In Thailand, the Kao Pad is often served with the Thai condiment Prik Nam Pla. It is also commonly served as a side dish with other meals, such as Som Tum Thai (Papaia salad). Since it is a flesh -free fried rice, you can combine it with Thai chicken wings for added proteins.
How to keep and heat
Conservation: To keep the leftovers fresh, keep it in an airtight container in the refrigerator. It will last up to 3-4 days. Make sure the rice has cooled at room temperature before sealing it.
Heating: When you are ready to enjoy your fried rice again in green curry pasta, the best way to warm it is in a pan over medium heat. If you are in a hurry, you can also microwave until it’s hot, mixing halfway.
