This smooth, creamy and frozen smoothie for the sweet skin of the tofu 腐竹糖水沙冰 is the most unexpected delight. Made with traditional traditional Chinese ingredients, it is transformed with a modern treatment method into a strongly pleasant and compelling treatment.
We discovered this clean drink in a local restaurant that serves traditional CHAAN TENG 茶餐廳 food. But I’m quite sure that this is not a traditional HK treatment. But it doesn’t matter, everything is right in love and food. This smoothie was absolutely Yummile, the right thing to refresh yourself and calm a hot day. We recreated this sweet tofu leather smoothie to make all our dear readers entertain. Cold, sweetly creamy, tofu-y, this smoothie is really far away!
This stellar ingredient of this smoothie is the dry tofu skin 腐竹, sometimes also known as Fuzhu. The dry tofu skin is made of the film that is formed on the upper part of boiling soy milk. It is torn and dried in sheets. If this dried tofu skin boiled, it dissolves almost completely, leaving behind a creaminess slightly flavored with tofu. The Chinese often use it in dessert soups, exquisite! Today we take advantage of this creaminess for our succulent smoothie.
Note that this delicious sweet leather smoothie is Not The same as the other tofu smoothies that use normal tofu. Normal tofu has no taste and is only used to add body to the smoothie. The dry tofu skin 腐竹 has its wonderful delicate taste and consistency and this makes it completely different and unique!
Buy the dry tofu skin in tofu vendors in wet markets or in any shop that sell tofu products. Note that there are many products for the skin of the tofu and you duty Make sure you get the right one. British names are often confused, so be sure to control it against the Chinese name 腐竹. In addition, 腐竹 is quite delicate and fragile, easily cracked, as you can see in the photo above.
Note: I discovered that even the Chinese names for dry tofu skin are sometimes wrong! I have no idea why. So, to be sure you have the right type of tofu, tell him delicate. It should be quite delicate and fragile enough to break under light pressure.
We drain the smoothie with Chinese rock sugar 冰糖. Rock sugar is boiled brown sugar and therefore crystallized. It is less sweet than normal sugar and is used for many sweet and savory Chinese dishes.
So simple to prepare this smoothie! Just crush the dry tofu skin and add to the pot with rock sugar and water. Boil over low heat. The tofu skin will dissolve slowly.
Do you see how the dry tofu skin has melted?
Now we use our sticks blender to grab in a smooth consistency.
Look how smooth our tofu skin is now? Nom, nom …
The skin of the softened tofu is frozen and then puree in a frozen smoothie. Here we added some icing sugar to sweeten the smoothie a little more while we have calculated the amount of rock sugar badly badly. But don’t worry, we regulated the level of sweetness in the recipe below.
A little magician and your smoothie is ready to pour into a high glass. Don’t forget to add a straw!
Fresh and creamly dense, sweet with a delicious hint of tofu flavor, this sweet tofu leather smoothie 腐竹糖水沙冰 is one of my daughter’s favorite drinks! I hope you like it as much as you!
