For many visitors in the Fethiye area – and for us too – Pretty Göcek is one of those places that tends to stop on travel to and from Dalaman’s airport.

If we are dropping friends at the airport and their flight time is such that we could spend every day around, waiting for the inevitable, much better to enjoy a little than those last hours of their holiday period in Göcek or Dalyan.
But in the last two years, largely thanks to the annual Göcek Herb FestivalWe spent more time in this west corner of the Fethiye area.
A place with its distinct personality, the small city center contains a real fist and adores acute contrasts.
Göcek Bays & Islands
For maritime, the peaceful bays of Göcek are a real draw.
We are in the heart of the Turkish coast of Türkiye, here!

For better or for worse, some of these beautiful bays have been developed in exclusive marines – and this is perhaps what the small town is now more famous.
There is no lack of marine in Göcek!
The main not very long stretch of the port has four alone; One of which can host Mega Yacht.
Obviously, this makes the city a popular choice for the rich and famous.

But it is also a popular choice for holidays on traditional gülets and smaller boats owners who love the refuge of the Göcek islands.
And for daytrippers on boats!
As you might expect, there are public daily boat trips from the port of Göcek who head around these bays and islands so that they can swim and absorb the splendid Mediterranean scenario of this corner of the country.
But also, if you accommodate in Fethiye, two popular boat trips you can do are the newspaper 12 Journey of the island and the weekly Göcek market boat trip every Sunday.
Both of these trips bring the islands around Göcek.
This is an area in which the day boats rub their shoulders on the boat with ships with the size of small fishing boats to those aforementioned luxury yachts.
The seas do not discriminate.
A “special place”

And, on dry earth, it is the same story. This is what Göcek makes Göcek so fascinating and such an enchanting place for some time.
Göcek is a special protection area and a walk along the port for how much Mediterranean Protection Society (Mediterranean Protection Society).
The poster reads: you knew, you are in a special place! Fethiye-Göcek is one of the 18 special environmental protection areas of Türkiye, appreciated for its nature, history and unique culture.

So, while Göcek is a popular choice for the rich yacht owners, this does not mean that there is a feeling of “pomp and glamor” for the city.
Unlike Bodrum, more west, who has more than its right dose of nightlife and expensive shopping in the navy, Göcek is low, low ascent and a perfect place to relax.
Along the lateral roads that lead from the main road D400 to the center of Göcek, he has committed himself to his feeling as a village.
In addition to low rise residences, it is here that you will also find small pensions and hotels boutique.
A compact port city that manages to satisfy its full -time residents, budget travelers and those who also want a more luxurious stay.
Shopping in Göcek
Behind the port there is the main road to shopping.
We are not great in shopping. But in Göcek, it is a small experience that keeps us even the most reluctant of buyers.

Easy pedestrian roads full of shops that sell anything from the traditional Turkish souvenirs of the variety that will not break the bank.
In boutiques and artisan shops that sell handmade jewels and the like.
And the practices of Göcek’s life: supplies for fishing and boating, mini markets, butchers, bank branches and only a couple of branches of chains.
And everything adapts to a few hundred square meters with the Göcek market (which takes place every Sunday) sitting right on the opposite side of the main road; Atatürk Bulvarı.
Eating and drinking in Göcek

Feeding and watering yourself is a similar experience.
If you are someone looking for “complete English” or “Sunday roast”, Göcek is not the place for you.
Göcek is aimed at locals, domestic tourists and international tourists.
What you will find are small side cafes where you can snack like Börek and Toasties and Döner Kebab.
And there are also cafés, of course.
Along the port, there are coffee and restaurants that serve Turkish and international cuisine.
West Cafe (above), also with a branch in Akyaka, is a favorite for us and many others.
There is Always A buzz there and its shaded tables and chairs on the trees are a perfect respite with a summer heat.

Other restaurants offer a view of the tourist port, where you will have to book a table on the summer evenings.
Life on the beach
What we told you in this article is the Göcek Us Know and love.
And we don’t associate the city with the beaches.
But this does not mean that they are not there.

Take a walk along the port and on the bridge of the canal that serves cars.
You could also stop here to take some photos, as everyone others do.
Probably the most photographed point in Göcek at the moment.
And then you can continue towards D-resort Göcek, passing a couple of pleasant restaurants and bar coffee along the way.
Walk up to the sea and you will see the imported sand (apparently by the Sahara desert) along the coast – and the edge of the restaurant on the beach.

The entrance doors have just returned as you have arrived and, from the reviews we have read, if you want to use the beach, it will cost you very much!
Alternatively, a aquatic taxi time leaves for Beach of the island of Göcekin the season.
Here, there is a bar on the beach and the structures that change, as well as beds and parasols for rent.
And a few minutes away, again towards Fethiye, it is the public beach, Inlice beach.

This will be popular among the clubs, especially on weekends, in the summer season. And, depending on the year, or has decent structures or not.
But in Göcek, you are in an excellent position to take a local Dolmuş or drive in some of the best beaches of Fethiye and beyond.
Wildes! Happy trips!
