Visiting Maui and unsure where to eat or shop gluten-free? This comprehensive guide has you covered—from takeout spots to full-service restaurants and grocery stores across Lahaina, Kahului, and Kihei. After nearly two decades of regular trips to Maui, I’ve curated my go-to list for navigating the island without gluten, all without sacrificing flavor.
A Note on Dietary Choices
While I aim to eat mindfully, I don’t stay 100% Paleo while vacationing. That said, I always stick to gluten-free options due to dietary needs. Most of the restaurants featured here are not entirely gluten-free, but they do offer gluten-free menus or are accommodating when you request gluten-free options. If you have celiac disease, please be cautious and ask about potential cross-contamination.

Where to Shop for Gluten-Free Groceries
Kahului
Whole Foods Market
A well-stocked, bustling location just 30 minutes from the west side of the island. It’s ideal for grabbing essentials on your way to or from the airport. While some mainland items are pricey, local artisan products are often cheaper and unique. Don’t forget to grab free ice for your cold items.

Down To Earth Organic & Natural
This vegetarian organic store near Whole Foods offers a variety of organic produce and gluten-free items. Though it has many soy-based products, there’s a great selection for gluten-free shoppers.

Costco
Located near the airport, it’s perfect for extended stays or families. Stock up on organic produce, local snacks, and even snorkel gear. A membership is required.
Walmart
A practical stop for gluten-free groceries at non-bulk prices. Located near the airport with a good variety of options.
Lahaina
Farmer’s Market Maui
Previously a favorite vegetarian market in Honokowai, currently closed with plans to reopen on the west side. The Kihei location remains open.
Foodland Farms Lahaina
A local chain with everything from fresh produce to reusable grocery bags printed with local designs—great for souvenirs!
Safeway
Open 24/7 and surprisingly well-stocked with organic and gluten-free foods. Look for kombucha, Applegate Farms meats, and local products.
