Chinese Tofu with Egg recipe

In this recipe for tofu and eggs, the soft or solid tofu is fried in a pan, covered with eggs and then simmer in a delicious sauce for a meal rich in protein, vegetarian and surprisingly satisfactory!

A simpler version of a more well -known dish

This recipe has a very nice name. In Chinese, it is 鸡蛋抱豆腐, which translates into “eggs that embrace the tofu”. I saw several versions of the recipe in the video on the Chinese app on social media Wechat and I decided to try it!

The family loved him. The eggs add a lot of wealth to the tofu and the sauce, with a pinch of five spices in powder and aromatic garlic, shallot and chili pepper, has a surprising size.

I think it is a connection to the classic dish in the cuisine lu (i.e. Shandong cuisine – read more about the eight large kitchens of China), Guota Tofu (锅塌豆腐 – Guō tā dòufu).

Guo ta tofu provides the sandwich ground pig between two thin pieces of tofu. So, the chef covers every single piece in beaten eggs, flows and the kitchen in sauce to complete the dish. While there are many ways to perform the dish, you can see the basic process in this YouTube video.

This recipe is definitely simpler than that. There is no meat involved. Instead of covering the pieces of tofu in the egg, simply pour the egg above! Do everything on a pan. Serve with rice, a quick vegetable to go to the side like our lettuce with oyster sauce and garlic, Bok Choy-Frillo or broccoli garlic and dinner.

Tofu and eggs are two high quality proteins, easy to prepare and daily staples. This dish is also very suitable for children (also for babies and children with its soft plots: just omit the chilli pepper). It is so tasty that they will love him.

We get to the recipe!

Instructions for recipes of tofu and eggs

Slice the block of the tofu half a longitudinal. Then cut it transversely into thick ¼ inches pieces (6-7 mm). Lightly cut the pieces on both sides with a paper napkin.

Prepare the sauce by mixing the light soy sauce, shaoxing wine, oyster sauce, white pepper, five spices in powder and water. Set aside.

Heat a large cast iron-bottomed cast iron or a non-stick pan over medium-high heat (if you use cast iron, heat until it starts smoking; discover because this prevents you from sticking). Once heated thoroughly, cover the bottom of the pan with oil. Add the slices of tofu in a single layer and fry them for 2 minutes per side, until lightly golden. Do it in lots if necessary.

Put all the fried tofu in the pan in a thin layer. Pour half of the uniformly beaten eggs on the tofu.

Once the egg starts setting on the bottom, turn the pieces of the tofu upside down. Pour the rest of the uniformly beaten egg on the other side. Cook until the eggs are placed.

Add the sauce mixture together with the chopped garlic, the white part of the shallots and to the chillies, if it is used. Reduce the heat to medium, cover and cook for 8-10 minutes.

Discover, give everything a launch and further reduce the sauce if necessary. Garnish with the chopped green parts of the shallot.

And serve!
