The flax seeds, or Chikna as we called it at home, have always been part of my life, even before they know how healthy they were.
My father grew flax seeds on our agricultural land. After the collection, some seeds would have been kept in the Baramda, not to dry out, just positioned there casually.
Some of these would have sold and some that we have given to relatives. At that time, we did not know the value of flax seeds. It was just another harvest.
At home, my mother would have prepared Chikna Kaddu, Tisi Ka Paratha, or simply add it to Dal-Chawal.
That flavor, from the heat, in simple rice and a little flax seed powder was something else.
My brother loved him so much that he kept saying: “Thoda Aur de Na … Aur Thoda … Bas Thoda Sa Aur Chikna Daal de!”
And that’s right, he would end up paying so much that he couldn’t even eat it! 😄 The chikna would be more than rice on its plate. We still laugh at this.
Now that we know health benefits, we have started using flax seed powder again. But the funny thing is that we must now buy it from the shop. It is not even cheap!

Basic ingredients used to create this recipe:
Linseed seeds: This is the only ingredient necessary for this recipe. Linseed seeds are full of omega-3 fatty acids, food fibers and are known to support the digestion and health of the intestine.
If eaten entire, most of their nutrients cross the unlawful body. But when roasted and ground, they become easier to absorb for the body.
The hazelnut flavor also becomes more fun after the roasting.
Prevent the screen from becoming dark
- 1/2 cup Flax seeds Tisi / alasi or if necessary
Heat a clean and dry pan or low flame kadai.
Add the flax seeds and roast them, mixing every few seconds to avoid combustion.
The seeds will begin to burst like mustard seeds.
Keep a lid on hand and covers between means to avoid jumping out.
Roast for about 3-4 minutes, until a hot aroma is obtained full of nuts.
Turn off the flame and let the seeds cool completely.
Once cooled, transfer them to a dry grinder and grind in a fine powder.
Keep in an airtight container.
For a longer freshness, refrigerate and use within 1 month.
If it will report outside, finish within 3-4 days.
For better taste, make in small lots and consume fresh.
Tisi powder can be added to Paratha Pasta, Chutneys, Sabudana Khichdi, Sattu or even sprinkled with Dal-Chawal.
